Our Story

我們的故事

Opal is one of the most captivating gemstones in the natural world, yet it has historically been one of the most difficult to evaluate in a standardized manner. Existing assessment methods were unable to effectively respond to new mining origins, lacked the ability to quantify the specific distribution of play of color, and could not objectively measure the vibrancy of the optical phenomenon across different viewing angles.

歐泊是自然界中最迷人的寶石之一，然而歷來也是最難以標準化評估的品種。現有評估方法難以應對新興產地特徵，缺乏量化變彩實際分佈範圍的能力，亦無法客觀衡量不同觀察角度下光學現象的活力。

The OPALS Grading System was founded in 2026 to fill these precise gaps — combining gemological expertise with innovative quantitative methodology to produce a framework that is rigorous, teachable, and globally applicable.

OPALS 歐泊分級系統正是為填補這些空白而創立，結合寶石學專業知識與創新量化方法，建立一套嚴謹、可傳授且適用於全球的評估框架。

Carmen K. M. Hui

FGA · Co-Founder

Carmen K. M. Hui is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA) and a professional gemologist with extensive expertise in colored gemstone evaluation. With a particular focus on opal, she identified the critical need for a standardized, quantitative grading methodology and co-developed the OPALS Grading System to address this gap. Her work reflects a commitment to elevating professional standards and advancing gemological education in the field.

Co-Founder

Dr. Andy K. H. Chan collaboratively developed the OPALS Grading System with Carmen K. M. Hui, providing valuable opinions and insights throughout the development of the grading system. His analytical approach informed the system's quantitative scoring mechanisms — in particular the innovative Spectrum of Color dimension and the weighted Play of Color calculation methodology — ensuring the system maintains high standards of scientific reproducibility.

Dr. Andy K. H. Chan 與 Carmen K. M. Hui 共同研發 OPALS 歐泊分級系統，並在評級系統的開發過程中提供寶貴意見與深入見解。其分析方法為系統的量化評分機制奠定基礎——尤其包括創新的色譜分佈維度及變彩加權計算方法，確保本系統達到高標準的科學可重現性。

To ensure the rigour and consistency of grading standards, only individuals who have received formal accreditation as Accredited OPALS Grading System Gemologists are authorized to use this system for official evaluations and to issue official appraisal certificates or reports bearing the OPALS grading standards.

為確保評級標準的嚴謹性與一致性，僅有正式通過認證的 OPALS 歐泊分級系統認證寶石學家，方有權限使用本系統進行官方評估，並簽發帶有 OPALS 分級標準的官方鑑定證書或報告。

All grading reports issued by Accredited Gemologists pursuant to this system must display the following copyright notice in a prominent position:
